Call for new Editor of Argumentation and Advocacy, vols. 59-61

Individuals are invited to submit nominations, including self-nominations, for Editor of Argumentation and Advocacy: The Journal of the American Forensic Association.

Argumentation and Advocacy is an official publication of the American Forensic Association. The mission of Argumentation and Advocacy is to promote scholarship in the field by publishing the best argumentation and advocacy research from diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives. It seeks to address a broad intellectual audience interested in argumentation studies from a wide array of scholarly traditions such as modern and classical rhetoric, formal and informal logic, intercollegiate forensics, media studies, communication studies, political science, social advocacy, social influence, legal studies, and other fields that concern arguments and/or arguing. A & A is published by Taylor & Francis, and recent issues may be found here:

To edit the journal, an individual must be a current member or join the American Forensics Association. The three-year editorial term for this quarterly publication will commence with the publication of the Summer 2023 issue (vol. 59, no 1). The editor should be in place by early Fall 2022 so that they may compile an editorial board, develop submission guidelines, and begin receiving submissions by January of 2023. The editorship will span the years 2023 to 2025 (Volumes 59-61, 4 issues a year). The AFA Constitution reserves to the editor the right to select members of the editorial board and assures them control over the editorial content of the journal.

The nomination should include (1) a statement of the nomination; (2) a current curriculum vitae; (3) a statement of philosophy or approach to the editor’s task; and (4) two letters of recommendation. The statement of philosophy should include the candidate’s editorial philosophy, and should discuss their view of the scope of subject matter appropriate for publication in the journal; it may also contain ideas for potential special issues of the journal. This statement is the candidate’s opportunity to share their vision of the journal with the Publications Committee. This statement also is the appropriate venue in which candidates might demonstrate their commitment to inclusive scholarship by offering 5-10 names the candidate intends to invite to the editorial board.

The Publications Committee enthusiastically encourages interested candidates from historically underrepresented communities and backgrounds, and will view favorably candidates who demonstrate a commitment to inclusive scholarship via a diverse slate of potential editorial board members (in addition to other practices of inclusivity).

Nominations or other inquiries about the position should be submitted electronically to Dr. Heidi Hamilton, AFA Publications Committee (hhamilto@emporia.edu). Please use “Editor nomination” in the subject line of your correspondence. Electronic submissions should be in MSWord or PDF format. Nominations must be received by August 1, 2022.
